Is the Saturno cam for power at higher revs? Is the Norwest more for lower revs torque what's the "best" cam to use?
I think I would rather go for lower rev grunt than top end, but I expect they would not be a HUGE difference between them??

How hard is it to find a 500 Saturno head???
Good luck
If you will find 2 of them, please drop me a note at once giggle

Well..... now I have! I have in the past week bought TWO 500 Saturno heads!
One a few days ago to use on the 558 engine and last night another 500 head attached to a COMPLETE 500 Staurno engine! :)

I am a happy. I can now have a 558 engine in one Saturno with a 500 head and single carb and another Saturno (which was a 350) I will replace the engine with the standard 500 engine.

Just got to wait for them to come in from Japan now....

Gavin

Hiya guys,

I am finally looking at fitting my 500 Saturno head to my 588 Nordwest engine and I have a question.... which head gasket do I buy? The 500 Saturno gasket or the Nordwest head gasket??

Regards
Gavin

ohhh... what's that :)
Of course you have to use the 'big' gasket.
But you will have to make 2 extra holes because the water channels in the Saturno head are slightly different.
Doing this *not* will end up in overheating the engine.
Unfortunatelly the search machine of the forum is somehow dead.
I have posted some pics years ago
I somewhere must have those pics on my computer....

there are no silly questions.
I was just curious about yor 588ccm engine ;)

Found the pics.

The 600ccm gasket was from a big cylinder with a Saturo head i found in an overheating motor.
The 500ccm gasket is from an original Saturno motor.
I think you can see what i'm talking about.
Just put your gasket on your cylinder head and watch the position of the small holes.
If they don't fit with the channels make new ones in the middle like it is on the 500ccm gaskets
Maybe it's better to make the holes wider so they have the original diameter *in* the water channel.

that's common Gilera knowledge ;)
I think you can read about that in 'Saturno tuning' from HP, famous Mr. Saturno...
We all miss you ;)

After getting my #uno hit by a car, i bought #due and was happy that it still has the big cylinder.
But it always got hot... so i opened the engine... years ago ;)
On those pics one gasket is from my #uno, the other from #due :kacke:

Has anyone changed Nordwest 558 valves into a Saturno 500 head?? Are they the same stem size and length? Can it be done with cutting the valve seats larger and reshaping the ports???
Does anyone have the valve sizes for the Saturno 500 and Nordwest 558?
Thanks Gavin

Ach HP ich sehe das nicht so eng.
Es ist ok wenn du meine Fotos in deinen Youtube Videos verwendest :)

Does the top engine cam cover from a 350 engine fit on a 558 Nordwest engine? If so it is an easy way to get that part of the conversion to mechanical cam drive done... then I just need to swap over the drive wheel off the cam. The drive gear looks pressed on and I might have the destroy the can shaft to get it off. I am busy making a Y manifold to run a 40mm carb off a 500.
