Oh no just blown my piston and rings dose anyone have any advice i hear that you cant get a re boar it has to be re chromed is this true?

Yes, it's possible.
In Italy, if cylinder isn't in very bad conditions, it's possible to re-coat it.
Price.... about 80 Euros.
New dedicated piston, about 70 Euros.

Well i was doing about 60mph/120km and it just locked up and died
i haven't started striping it yet but i will do soon then we will see the damage
i hope its not to bad but in not building my hopes up, a guy has said it will cost me £140 to have it coated and £59 for new piston and rings

Is this the piston with the 'windows'?
I have one at home, maybe....

Getting the barrel repaired is no problem (beside the price)
I had to pay about 200 Euros and about 100 for the GFR piston, which seems to be veeeery rare. So i was happy to get one at least. Maybe it's better to find a reliabel person which much experience in such things then looking to much after a low price.
The coating get's removed and then they do a new NiCaSil (or something like this) coating.
After that the diameter of the bore gets honed to fit to your piston. So you need the piston *before* the other work is done.
The guy who did my cylinder mentioned, that the gap Gilera claimed for the GFR (workshop manual) is rather small. So he honed the bore close to the biggest diameter Gilera tells.
Just as a hint....
Beside this you should bleed the cooling system very carefully.
Even back in the GeN days more than one member has problems with seized pistons while having air left in the cooling system (hello Pete)
Another hint from the GeN days.... you should always warm up the engine very carefully.
The temperature gauge should go up, down and up again before squezing the engine hard.
First the water around the cylinder gets warmed. After that the thermostate opens, what causes a swell of cold water from the cooler hits the cylinder wall and the piston behind (thats the moment the gauge wents down).
If you have a lot of load on your engine at that time, it may end up in a seized engine.

No, Rc Top Rally piston it's without windows.

What was the water temperature?

Highly tuned water cooled two stokes are prone to cold siezure.

I use only fully synthetic 'race' oil in my CX and make very sure the engine is properly up to temperature before getiing into the power valve range. The temperature first rises, but can then drop suddenly again when the thermostat opens.

If the water isn't up to temperature then the piston can expand faster than the bore and you've got a siezure. It's bore clearance when HOT that counts, so go by the piston manufacturers recommendation, different alloys have different expansion rates.

Of course, you've got to have sufficient oil supply. If the bike has been sitting then you should dump the oil, refill and then bleed the lines by holding the oil pump control cable open.

Oh well here's the outcome and its not good

Uhm.... cilynder it's strongly damaged....
Needs to be re-coated....
In 3rd pics there is a piece of aluminium was smeared on surface....
This it's not very good....
You must to ask, in a specialized cilynder center,if it's possible to re-coat Nickel-Silicium...

hi all
ive just had a similar thing with my R1 125.try bob wright,i bought a new cylinder/piston/ring gasket set for about £200.it took me 4 hrs to fit.everything now ok.

It also can be repaired. Maybe some TIG welding is necessary.
New or repairing... depends on the price (or should i say PRICE)

Things are not looking so bad as i phoned these chaps http://www.langcourt.com/Cylinder_repai ... lating.htm and they said its only going to cost me £122.50 for a boar repair and to get it re coated.

They also said i dont need to supply a piston as they will repair it back to standard size???

i will also give bob wright a ring see if he has changed his price as he said £240 to last time i phoned

all i need now the money now lol

but you will have to tel them which size of piston you have (or will have)
See Marcos list above (A to F)
Maybe they will tell you that the gap is a little bit small and will hone the hole to the upper tolerance
