hi marco
could you tell me if the xr1 front end,ie.yokes and forks would fit my frame also would my front wheel fit the xr1 forks.
i have the possibility of buying the forks and yokes and wheel spindle from the xr1
for £50.

Hi Adrian!
I think that you have seen an auction on eBay....
Well, I think that you can fit a wheel of Gilera XR1 on R1; but rim of XR1 it's a chrome steel one, and R1 rim it's a "gold" aluminium one......
About change a complete front wheel gear..... well... I don't know....
I think that maybe it's possible, but it's possible too that you change the measures of your motorbike (like front misalignment?).
This can give you some troubles when you ride your R1.....
But why? What kind of problem have actually your front forks?
Ciao

Bent!!!
Damn!
You can try to take a part front forks gear.....
.... and.... try to straight cold both forks!
But you must to be careful!
Ah! Damn! This is not good.....
I saw an auction on eBay more weeks ago about R1 forks....
Uff!
Do you want to take a part it?

Hi Adrian.
Well... 10 mm, aren't too much.... but you must to consider that your front forks will works in torsion.....
This can damage quickly oil seals.
About ride your Gilera R1 with a forks slightly bent.... yeah.... We'll see!
I think that shipping costs for a complete forks gear from Italy to England are about 50/60 Euros....
..... not very cheap....
But we'll see!
About front wheel and brakes XR1/R1: brakes are the same (disk, clamps, diameter and measure), but I don't know about wheel spacer on pin wheel....

hi all,
i took the bike out for a quick spin and all seems well, apart from a little hunting(rise and fall)at tickover.

any ideas?
the rc 600 front end fits well and handles quite good.

Hi Adrian!
Very well! Good job!
What do you mean about hunting at tickover?
A not regular number of rpm at "minimum"?
Please tell me more!

hi marco
the tickover rpm is a little erratic.sometimes the rpm rises for a while then returning to normal.
its probably the carburettor jets or settings.
apart from the above all is fine
thanks for all your help
