erm?
Does this increase the 125cc to something bigger? I need to keep my Gary (the KK) as a 125, but would like to overhaul the engine as he is now 20 and I doubt if he has ever been done, looking at him. Anyway, is there an overhaul kit that I can buy, along with instructions for the work?
At the same time, can anyone explain for me both the APTS and the Power Valve? I don't understand either of them and can find nothing written about them in English

Well... APTS it's the acronym of Automatic Power Tuning System.
This it's the system with Gilera has tried to give more power to his 2T engine at the low number of rpm.
APTS it's based on a cylindrical exaust valve that until about 7000 rpm it remains in closed position.
This closed position leave a small passage for exaust and give to engine more power at low rpm.
Over about 7000 rpm, this valve it's rotate by a connection with drive shaft.
In this way valve open gradually all the exaust (about 8000 rpm), and can give to engine to "explode" his maximum power!
This is the approximate APTS valve operation.....
In Italy there are 2 kits for Gilera engine:
- Polini without APTS valve (about 160 c.c.)
- Malossi with APTS valve (about 168 c.c.)
Ciao!

Thank you Marco, I didn't realise that you could increase the power of an engine by resticting the flow of exhaust gases through the exhaust ports
I take it from your description of the two available kits that they are both intended to increase the cc of the engine, and in that case are of no use to me
Is there an overhaul kit I can get which will allow me to just refurbish the engine?
Ok, so now I understand the APTS, but what does 'Power Drive' mean?

Yes, it increases 125 to 168 ccm, I think that malossi kit is cheaper than original one and performance are better (I don't know is it possible to buy original kit with 125ccm), with malosii you get instructions on italian language.deana wrote:erm?Does this increase the 125cc to something bigger? APTS is gilera brand (name) for pover valve, this valve can adjust exhaust outlet. The device consists of partition valve that is transversely mounted to the cylinder. Valve controls the height of the outlet and operates the extension chamber simultaneously by opening or shutting down the gas flow into the chamber. On lower rpm valve divides the outlet and part of the gases flows into the chamber thus optimizing torque values, over 6000 or 6500 rpm valve opens the outlet completely.

Morning Joachim,
Initially my question was about Power Valve, as part of the APTS system. I understand that better thanks to Marco and bdeb, so am now asking about the 'Power Drive' (I have a Power Drive sign on the side of the swing arm).

Well.... "Power Drive" it's the name of mechanical lever device of your Gilera.... and, I think, of all Gilera (?)
Shortly: your mono-shock-absorber it's fastened at a group of 2 small levers (1st triangle shaped and 2nd of rectilinear shaped); this group connect mono shock at swing arm.
Those levers leave to obtain a sweetest movement of rear part of your bike when it's in motion (for example meets obstacles or backs).....
Have a nice day!
Ciao
